Surgery Can Improve Your Pet’s Health
Being told your pet needs to undergo surgery may raise quite a few questions, which we are more than happy to answer here at Windy Hill Veterinary Hospital in Smyrna. Our greatest concern is keeping patients as safe and comfortable as possible throughout any procedure, routine or otherwise. Pet surgery is a topic our veterinarians are willing to discuss at length with owners, in order to ease their minds and inform them of what exactly their loved one needs. Here at our veterinary facility, we can perform a wide variety of routine and soft-tissue surgeries to immensely improve your pet’s quality of life.
Our Pet Surgery Services
Depending on circumstances, your pet may only need to undergo surgery once in their life. However, our advanced surgical equipment and tools allow us to perform many services, including:
- Spaying and neutering
- Mass removals
- Oral surgery
- Reconstructive surgery
- Wound repair
- Hematoma repair
- Foreign body removals
- Anal gland removal (anal sacculectomy)
Prior to any surgery, we perform pre-anesthetic blood work to assess organ function and check for underlying health problems that could put our patient at risk if anesthetized. Should we discover any such problems, surgery will be postponed until the problem is corrected. Minimizing risk is our top priority.
To ensure our patients’ safety and comfort, we monitor several vital signs throughout the procedure. We utilize pulse oximetry to assess oxygen saturation of the blood, and an EKG to detect any abnormalities in the electrical activity of the heart. Our technician also monitors blood pressure and temperature. To keep pets warm during their surgery, we use fluid warmers and pet-safe warming devices. Following surgery, we can perform laser therapy on some of our recovering patients to reduce pain and inflammation.
