How Pet Laser Therapy Works
The Class IV K-Laser transmits specific red and near-infrared wavelengths of laser light, which safely penetrate through the soft tissues to induce a photochemical effect in the area requiring treatment. The laser light is transmitted through a small handheld device and gently massaged over the affected areas. Most treatments take between 3 and 8 minutes and can be quite relaxing for the patient due to the gentle warming effect the laser light creates.
Conditions Laser Therapy Can Treat
Pet laser therapy can do 4 things: decrease pain, reduce inflammation, improve circulation, and enhance healing. Conditions that benefit from laser therapy include, but are not limited to:
- Acute and chronic otitis
- Degenerative joint disease
- Arthritis
- Lick granulomas
- Hot spots
- Inflammation
- Bone fractures
- Wounds/surgical incisions
- Gingivitis
- Intervertebral disc disease
- Infections
- Hip dysplasia
Laser Therapy is Safe
Since pet laser therapy does not involve drugs, surgery, or manual therapy, your pet will feel no discomfort during their procedure—in fact, they should feel very comfortable! We often use our therapy laser to treat pets after they have been in surgery to reduce pain and swelling and speed their recovery. You’re more than welcome to remain in the room while your pet undergoes treatment, but you (and your pet) will need to wear protective eye goggles as a standard safety precaution.
To determine whether laser therapy will be the most optimal treatment for your pet, we will examine them from nose to tail and evaluate their medical history. The number of treatments your pet will require depends entirely on its current condition and how they respond to the procedure. Acute conditions can typically be resolved in 1 to 2 treatments, but chronic conditions will require more. If you would like to schedule a consultation with us to discuss laser therapy for your pet, give us a call today at (770) 333-9030 or book an appointment online.
